Nova Lumina is an annual event offering an interactive and immersive experience to get to close to the twinkling stars. This family-friendly event brings everyone together to celebrate the beauty of nature, sound, and lights.

This festival of lights is one of the greatest landscaping schemes you can ever experience. The 1.5-km enchanted night walk combines three critical principles: a strong narrative, multimedia effects, and an interactive component.

About Nova Lumina lights fest

Seeing tons of lights, you will feel like stars are falling from the night sky. This light exhibition will fill the beach with thousands to millions of lights. You will love how fairy lights, blinking Christmas lights, curtain lights, LED curtain lights, icicle lights, net lights, meteor shower lights, and rope lights illuminate your day.


When you arrive at the light festival venue, you will get an interactive walking stick. From there, you will start your quest – carry the fallen star’s light and return it to its home.
This light exhibition lets you explore the trail at your own pace. The journey lasts about 60 minutes. It has different stages: Star Tide, Grove of Celestial Song, Nebulas, The Celestial Tide, Milky Way, Stardust, and Comets.


Undoubtedly, Nova Lumina is an artistic and stunning night walk experience harnessing the true beauty of nature. The festival of lights invites you to touch and feel the natural phenomena.

Nova Lumina Dates (2022)

Each night walk has a specific design for every destination. You will see unique aspects of the local culture and environment. As you walk through the paths, you will meet different characters and be part of the immersive adventure.

Nova Lumina offers a new, magical way to enjoy and appreciate the historical and natural destinations under the starry night. The light festival introduces you to a wide-open space, where you will explore the illuminated forest and search for the fallen stars. 

In every turn you make, you will encounter playful surprises. You have to find and collect stars. Then, return them to their home during the closing sequences.

The festival of lights runs from June 24 until September 18, 2022 and on Fridays and Saturdays from September 3 to October 6. So, you have plenty of time planning for your visit. Do not forget to invite your family and friends. 

Where It’s Located and How to Get There 

Nova Lumina is a popular land-based attraction, highlighting the sublime landscape of the Gaspe Peninsula. It is an exciting and fun-filled event for all ages.

The festival of lights takes place in Camping Du Parc du Bourg de Pabos in 75 Chem. de la Plage, Pabos Mills, QC G0C 2J0, Canada. Don’t worry if it is your first time visiting the festival venue; getting there is straightforward.

If you come from Perce or Baie des Chaleurs, follow the signs on Route 132. Meanwhile, if you come from downtown Chandler, take the pedestrian footbridge connecting Rue de la Plage with Chemin de la Plage. 

If you come from Montreal, you can take a bus and choose from different bus companies.

  • Intercar – the bus operates once daily from downtown Montreal to Sainte Foy
  • Orlean Express – the bus operates twice daily from Quebec to Rimouski; the bus operates once daily from Rimouski to Chandler 
  • Regim – the bus operates 3 times a week from Campbellton to Chandler 

Festival of lights Hours 

Nova Lumina will not only make visitors enjoy the beautiful story through the magical forest in the night sky but also actively participate in the event. The interactive component enhances the narrative, augmenting the immersive feeling.

The walking stick will literally connect you to the place. You will get mesmerized by the story, various multimedia installations, visual effects, and projections. The original musical score improves the light festival’s total immersion. 

The festival hours often start at 6:00 PM until 11:00 PM. Each journey lasts for 50 to 60 minutes. It is recommended to arrive at the festival venue a few minutes earlier.

Nova Lumina starts in June and ends in September. If you visit the festival of lights in June, expect the weather to be crisp or rainy. The average temperatures are in the high 10s C (60s F). So, make sure to pack an umbrella, rain pants, waterproof footwear, a rain poncho, jeans or pants, light or heavy skirts, fleece or light jacket, dresses, blouses, long sleeve shirts, and extra socks.

In July, the weather can be mild or rainy. The average temperatures are in the low 20s F (low 70s F). You can pack an umbrella, rain pants, waterproof footwear, a rain poncho, jeans or pants, sandals, light or heavy skirts, fleece or light jacket, dresses, blouses, long sleeve shirts, and extra socks.

If you prefer to join the festival in August, expect the weather to be mild or rainy as well. The average temperatures at night are in the single digits C (high 40s F). So, ensure to pack an umbrella, rain pants, waterproof footwear, sandals, a rain poncho, jeans or pants, light or heavy skirts, fleece or light jacket, dresses, blouses, long sleeve shirts, and extra socks.

In September, it is noticeable that the weather is cool or rainy. The average temperatures are in the high 10s C (low 60s F). Do not forget to bring a fleece, coat or jacket, mittens or light gloves, extra socks, jeans or warm pants, standard footwear, a rain poncho, and rain pants.

Aside from Nova Lumina, you can try other exciting things and attractions near Chandler, such as:

  • New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre 

These museums contain historical, scientific, artistic, and cultural collections. They also include university art and non-profit art galleries.

  • Miscou Island Lighthouse 

This 11-meter-tall lighthouse was built in 1856. The Canadian Coast Guard currently uses it. It was established because of the shipwrecks happening every year. It is open to the public and features a deck, a picnic area, washrooms, and a parking area.

  • Village Historique Acadien 

This historic reconstruction reflects the Acadian’s way of life from 1770 to 1949. It has over 40 buildings that portray traditional trades and ancestral customs. Hotel Chateau Albert is one of the main attractions, which is a replica of the century-old hotel.
